Mhenlo cheating in norn fighting tournament o:
I was just trying the norn tournament as an ursan, and everything was going fine till I got to Mhenlo. I swear he was 55'ing, since I was only ever able to do 5 damage to him (2 lots of 5 with ursan strike), and he was constantly healing with mending. The odd thing is I watched him for over a minute and never saw him cast anything other than signet of devotion and a smiting skill.
Maybe he had protective bond and some crazy energy management..

Mhenlo's Protective Spirit lasts forever - or until it gets stripped. Once it's stripped off him he doesn't seem to want to recast it for some bizarre reason, so he goes down very quickly after that.

Same here. I knew he 55ed so I thought it would be hard then he just dies right away.

You were correct in your assumption, he is using protective bond.

1. Place [skill]Gaze of Contempt[/skill] in skill bar.
2. Place [skill]plague touch[/skill] in skill bar.
3. ???
4. ???
5. Profit
Keeps blind/other conditions off and removes many annoying enchantments they may cast. Heck, you can even add [skill]Grenth's Balance[/skill] to it seeing as the others are necro skills.

[skill]Grenth's Balance[/skill] is difficult to use on Mhenlo. He has 105 hp, and letting your health drop low enough is risky. Even dropping to 1 hp yourself, you could only do ~52 to him. Like you said though, stripping or interrupting his enchantments blows him up fast. High degen(Burning Arrow/Apply Poison) or lifesteal will also work.

I never had a problem against Mhnelo in the Norn Tournament with either my Monk or my Rit.
He's a 55? Having only 105 health?
Oh man! If that is what he uses as a henchie, no wonder he dies so quickly.
Mhenlo aggros too much and dies. At 105 health with 0 dp... he's even worse than I thought. Hope he only lowers his hp during the Norn Tournament, else I'll never let him in my group ever again.

His build in the Norn Tourney is different than his hench build in any of the campaigns.

So, does anyone know for sure if he is just a cheater with Prot Spirit or if he is using Prot Bond? The only reason I ask is because he doesn't seem to die with Empathy on him and it would, presumably, end PB pretty quick...

[wiki]Balthazar's Spirit[/wiki] and a zealous weapon (may not be possible - I can't remember if he uses a wand or not) would basically reduce the energy loss from [wiki]protective bond[/wiki] to 1 (at 13+ prot - wiki says 6..4..3, not the 6..5..4 listed in the skill description here) for [wiki]empathy[/wiki] (since it only triggers on attacks). I don't know if [wiki]Essence Bond[/wiki] would trigger on an empathy hit - is it considered physical or elemental damage? If so, that would take care of the other -1 energy. Of course, that would be -3 energy regen from enchantments and -1 from the zealous weapon, so he would only be able to use signets once he got low, unless he has blessed signet.
I've never seen him cast prot spirit, so I would guess he is using prot bond.

Thanks for the help. Sorry, I should have been more clear...
When I was fighting Mhenlo, I could put empathy on him and he would attack me with his wand (doing 5 dmg per) and I would attack him (doing 5 dmg per) and he would just maintain. It seems like, when I have used PBond, that I would be dead out of energy pretty quick.
I never actually saw him cast either spell, but it seems like he is either cheating with PS or using PB. Either way, I was just curious.

If I'm right, enemy NPCs typically have waaaaaaay more energy than we do. Perhaps that's how Mhenlo can maintain Protective bond.

Several of the posts above indicate that mehnlo has 105 health, which means that he's definitely using bond if he's taking 5 damage per hit. PS would only reduce him to 10.
